There is a one click solution but most people will not want it because it is an exe file. Check out the work this guy has done. He has several icon packs for 10 and no doubt will be making more. I have used his stuff and feel safe about it. http://alexgal23.deviantart.com/

Thank you

that happened because the prizes almost fifteen years ago (cash) were interesting enough for Chinese designers. Chinese economy made a lot of progress in the meantime, so for the same thing to happen again you'd have to consider significantly higher prizes (my guess would be at least tenfold the cash, an ObjectDesktop subsription wont do

True, but hey, it is all about the variety
and promotion in the end.
Multiple superb Iconpackager Packages that can change all of your icons on the fly for that price-money would probably be cheaper, than hiring the Iconfactory to design "A" neat package for you.
The reason why people buy the app is because of the existing designs that are available for them to use.
At least that is  why i bought OD back in the day.

He is from Russia but what you download is in English. There will be an iconpack.ex_ file that you need to change the extension to exe. He does that because of some antivirus software giving false positives. You will also be asked to disable your antivirus before you install which I know is going to scare some people but to be fair there are other legit software that also does this because of false positives. I install his icon packs without disabling my Panda antivirus or my Malwarebytes premium version and it installs just fine. I never had a need to disable anything before installing. No one has to do anything they are not safe with doing. I am usually quite cautious but this guy seems to be legit and no one has complained about his work yet. He does a lot more than just icons too.

Use at your own risk. It has been safe for me and the other people who have tried it but I make no claims of individual computer compatibility and will not be held responsible if something happens to your computer. I have seen plenty of cases even with Stardock software where most people will install something with no issues but there will be that one person who claims it messed up their computer.

But, alas Stardock resources are being used for Games.  This business model apparently works well for them.     It is what it is.

Yes true. I will go as far as saying that it is just not IP or one of the many other Stardock software that has gone the way of the dodo that members should be concerned about. I predict customization in the next 10 years or maybe even less will be a thing of the past and people will have to get use to function over form. If you don't like the way a UI looks and won't use an operating system because of that reason alone you are going to be lost in the sea of unadaptiveness. Here is something that you may not know. Do you know that The owner of the customize.org site has pretty much abandoned the site. There are no longer any mods there, the site does not even have any contact links that work and the personal contact email address I have is dead. The owners name is Mark Lampert from Toronto and guess what he is co-owner of? the answer is Uken Games. Now I know customize.org is a different kettle of fish but the point being there are many who have abandoned anything to do with computer customization and have focussed their attention on other products that have a larger demand. Hyperdesk from the Skins Factory is another example that has not updated the software and then there are countless of smaller players such as Nick Decker abandoning sysmetrix because in his own words feels "it is no longer needed do to dwindling users"  Those are just the facts folks so enjoy what you have now because unless something changes it is not going to last.

Customize.org was THE original and first 'skinning' site.  It 'died' a very long time ago due to what could be best described as 'immature Administrators' who succeeded in alienating [most of] the original masters of skinning.

As with all things...."shit happens".  What WAS the 'best skinning site" on the net was sold to eFront who managed to kill it within months.  [that was skinz.org].

Deskmod died due to one too many database losses/hacks with the rising cost of hosting.

Deviantart was THE skinning site for a short time [months] until its real goal was realized...to become a general ART site [where skinning was essentially forgotten/lost amongst the photos of Fido].

All the others were/are quite small...essentially one-man sites.

Hyperdesk was a failed attempt by one person with 'attitude' to rival Stardock's GUI skinning software.

Nick simply should have charged for Sysmetrix and thus have a commercial incentive to continue.  It's quite a competent proggy...

Skinning's origins in 95 and 98 [and quite a bit earlier too....I used to 'skin' the text cursor in Dos on a monochrome screen]  had evolved to its peak probably around the turn of the millennium when there were literally HUNDREDS of skinnables, but it is quite safe to say that since the advent of an actually 'attractive' OS from Microsoft [Win 7] there has been less NEED to customize.  Much of the older GUI software was essentially broken by 64 bit architecture as well as new explorer.exe functionality making updating them uneconomical/non-viable.

People who were around 15 plus years ago can [and do] lament the loss of the Golden Age of skinning, but as with all endeavours....there will be people still willing/wanting to improve/alter what is put before them as out-of-the-box-boring...

I don't doubt at all what you have said, especially customize.org but the fact is regardless of how Mark and the other admin who is Steve Revird treated  original members there are still enough skilled members on the site that contribute. They could have kept the site going if the will was there. Steve has not been active on the site for the last 6 years and Mark only logs onto the site about every 3 months. I believe it is because the site does not make him money but Uken Games does.

I also agree that there will always be some who will want to make their system pretty but I think they will eventually have to find a way to do that without the software we have now.

The 'problem' Admin at Custo was an idiot-child who was all attitude and no substance...sort of the resident troll, not one of the original/owners.

The software we have now is what we have.   I doubt there will ever be another Lonerunnr turn up out of the blue [or out of France] with a squeaky clean/new rendition of Litestep for Win10, or another Fli7e to reverse engineer Winamp and essentially start off the whole skinning industry in mainstream use.

Microsoft really doesn't care about GUI skinning.....it barely cares about appearance at all.  8, 8.1 and 10 are testament to that...

Well there may have been such an admin at one time but that person would have been long gone. The 2 owners that I told you about are the only remaining admins and one is not active at all. I know this because I was a mod there at one time and I asked Mark in a personal email and that is what he told me. Mark himself is very young so I would not be surprised if he made a lot of mistakes starting out. In my time of dealing with him he was always reasonable with me though.

I've been 'inactive' for a while...

2001 would have been the time Custo was 'relaunched' after its rebuild.  Prior to that the header, etc was entirely different...

I love these 'trips to the past', Jafo. It's been quite a ride!

eFx, XPStyles, WinAmp, Shoggot from Skinz.org (and the evil Sam Jain from eFront), Thibaud from HoverDesk (eheh), Jark from DA, Nick from Sysmetrix, Tiggz, Aquasoft, WinMatrix, so many people, apps and sites that disappeared over the years or are now ghost towns.

Ah well. Nothing lasts forever. But we're still here.

and the evil Sam Jain from eFront

I'd managed to forget his name [darn]...

Ah...those old ICQ logs....heck they were 'entertaining'....

I *think* I still have them archived somewhere lol

Jeez...look at all the fun I missed.

I just looked through my old links: Lotsofskins, Artnskins, Crumbut, Deskmod, Osxp, Pixtudio and Dangeruss all are gone.
