Should NOT be here

What´s up with all these game-forum threads ???

They should be taken away from WC as they are not what WC-threads should be about at all, taking up forum space and are irritating in general for us Wincustomizers

Well well.  Seems it stays the way things are..... Can´t help noticing most users that posted a comment (or 2) are Anti off-site threads. The general oppinion from above seems to be it´s not "that bad" that you can´t handle it...... Hmmm, makes you wonder why they turned up in the first place

 Edit: -The threads that is.

Edit II: ....We´ll survive, life goes on

One freakin' week! Count 'em, one! That's how long those game threads from other forums have been resurrected for. Beyond that it's game threads that were started on here by Wincustomizers. As has been stated again and again throughout this thread, they are in a subforum that is appropriate for that content, and the people that play them have the right to do so. If they are constantly bumping other threads off the front page, that says more about the interest being shown for the other threads vs the game threads, which has also been stated in this thread. It requires nothing more than a few mouse clicks to go looking for the content you want to see.

Exactly.

Jafo bestows some Karma....

The studious ignoring of #54 gets on my tit.  You DO realise that Wincustomize-originating threads also show up on the Gaming Forums?  Are they running around like headless chooks exclaiming 'the sky is falling'?

Can't say I've noticed....

I'm a gamer as well as a skinner and I avoid the gamer threads as much as possible. There are to many elitists and to many opinions. Not like here where everyone is sane, rational, and always willing to keep an open mind to someone elses ideas.

well....I'm guilty of supporting 3 of the games threads quite constantly.... I think there is room for a little bit of socialising as well.... and it used to be that newcomers would feel more comfortable dipping their toes in one of those threads to get to know people than a technical thread....

Keep A Word...Drop A Word... always makes me smile to see Ed's name bobbing up in the forums...damn sentamentality...

but...there are times we have gluts....and its gets frustrating...when good posts get buried too frequently.... guess we just have to ride out those glut times.....they always manage to subside...for a time..

Oh, crap...what a narrow-minded attitude.

If it 'must' be known skinning originated back in the days of Dos games.... patches [maps] for things like Doom ...Heretic and even older - Wolfenstein.   That's the first I ever noticed an ability to alter graphics within a program/game [outside of hex-editing direct code].

These days it can take considerably MORE time to skin an aircraft in FSX than it ever could in building a Windowblind.

ALL 'skinning' is an artform.  It is not limited to GUI skinning exclusively.  Anyone who thinks that is a fool.

Well said. I mean, there are no elitists here, or opinions, and people are keeping an open mind to new ideas...

You know, the solution to having off-topic threads not 'dominate' with frequent responses is to actually have more activity on the SKINNING threads.

My inane "People will hit me, but..." was a direct response to a [then] drop off of forum activity specific to skinning/anything at all.

The fact off-topic threads seem to predominate is testament to skinning's ennui.

Yet when someone posts a few threads re a new Gadget/Widget proggy there's almost a heart-attack of horror....not to mention other recent accusations of 'spam'.

It's skinning threads on a skinning site, for heaven's sake....

Very true. Possible solutions?

1. More Galleries for other skinning apps. Xwidget comes to mind. I'd like to hear other 'safe' apps suggested. Folks suspect 'new' things, and that's not unreasonable in this day and age. How about some testing results? Not everything is msstyles or an equivalent. More niches encourage organisms to branch out, and serve as an attraction for potential customers to be exposed to SD software and just why it rocks. When someone runs into something new, please tell me.

2. Skinning 'classes'. How's that for a "Community Project"?  Yes, there is the WinWiki, but a Master showing step by step (omitting nothing) going from image creation to completed skin would really do wonders. I might actually try to make one, and Po' might actually finish one. Vampothika actually did something akin to this, just not in video. Hell, a Journeyman, or Master Apprentice could do this. It doesn't require a Master (though it would be nice, Harley). Just shoot the vid when you start and resume. Mistake? Show it! Nothing teaches like mistakes. Put them up as installments. No timetable. No cussing.

3. Instructional vid on Forum anatomy (and Gallery anatomy) and how to look for what really interests you. You can go beyond the Homepage, though granted, it takes a little more effort. That won't just help n00bs, but but many folks who've been here for a while.

this is not the first time that this was been instigated. the last time resulted in disaster from the "off-topic" threads.

which makes me again wonder just how off topic one can get without getting in trouble or even banned???

has this been said yet? how about being able to select only those headings that one wants to review on a regular basis. Then if one doesn't want to see headings that they have no interest in, they wouldn't have to. sort of like selecting galleries on the WC site.

oh, and, off with their heads.
