Should NOT be here
Published on December 9, 2011 By neone6 In WinCustomize Talk

What´s up with all these game-forum threads ???

They should be taken away from WC as they are not what WC-threads should be about at all, taking up forum space and are irritating in general for us Wincustomizers

paul (jafo), this is the first time i've disagreed with you. there is no reason nor excuse for threads about gaming to be here on wc. this is a skinning site, not a gaming site.i know i'm tired of having to sort through the threads to find ones related to skinning.

yes, some skinners are also gamers. let those folks post on the individual sites.

I'm sure it's not...

They are not 'gaming threads'...they are 'miscellaneous' or 'everything else' threads.  We have always had such creatures on WC.

Isn't this an issue for Brad really? He owns Stardock, and the various site forums are part of Stardock aren't they?

I personally don't see an issue. The game threads in question have been started in gaming forums, and while I agree they shouldn't be on this site because of that, and I have no idea why they've all seemingly risen from the dead en masse, they aren't exactly making it so hard to find the stuff relevant to skinners. It's really only a matter of going to the bottom of the forum threads page and clicking on 'more recent posts'. There are two pages of recent threads on there. A trifle inconvenient maybe, but nothing major.

We have plenty of threads on here, started by members of WC, that have bugger all to do with skinning or skinning software. Nobody complains about them.

I totally agree, glad somebody finally brought up the subject. Most are neither entertaining nor interesting, just a nuisance in my mind. I'm here for skinning and that's it. These stupid game threads are.....well..just that "stupid". How about we concern ourselves with something a little more important..say for instance, how about a tab on the main page for "Misc. Icons"....I don't think it get's the attention that it should and there are some incredibly talented artist there that I don't believe get the exposure they deserve.   O.K...there..I said it !! and I feel so liberated because of it.......so there !!!!      --Ace ---

I think Jafo did a good thing. This is an Internet business. All kinds of folks here. As should be. But, along with that is trying to keep everyone happy.

New comers get to see all venues and diversities available to them on page 1. And one doesn't need to go anywhere they don't want to.

It's mostly just getting used to it. Eventually no one will even notice. It's like a shopping mall instead of a shop.

I think Jafo did a good thing.

I didn't do anything, other than post logical reason why this is not an issue.

ALL forms of Forum cross-posting has led to various egos being stepped on [allegedly], but in reality no-one gets hurt.

MANY years ago I posted a thread 'People may hit me but...' as something to liven the Forums...back around 2002 or some-when ... a thread about what music you were listening to.  It didn't hurt...the world didn't end.  We survived.

Community interaction  really needs to be more than just "you bastards dump Impulse / you bastards bring back Impulse" et al.

'People may hit me but...
Only my fave. I'm using it as a favorite song library.

 Duly noted.

over on the WC site we are able to pick and choose those galleries that we wish to experience. it seems like a good idea to incorporate that technology within the forums.

We survived.

Or threads where Starkers yell " You Bastards! I had an Impulse to take a dump and you took my squares!!! " Now THAT was a fine lesson in survival!

Now, on a more serious note. I think if one bothers to look within the topics instead of complete reliance upon the "most recent" catch-all area things would look far less disastrous. It's all a matter of people selecting the correct category when posting and the mods correcting and sorting accordingly. The same troubles that have plagued forum-kind since the dawn of time....

certainly does... and we have our selection of games threads and nonsense threads here... within our community... adding more that aren't relevant to us overloads things a tad...

I wonder.... do they get all of our WC games threads showing up on their forum? and what would their reaction be if they did...

ok, paul, you're right. it isn't the first time. maybe it's the third. anyway, when one wants to peruse the 'recent posts' area, he/she is rewarded with posts originating from areas other than the wincustomize forum. maybe they aren't 'gaming related' but are instead 'miscellaneous' (wait a sec. i have to go check the spelling on that) but hey sure as heck aren't related to anything here on wc. granted, threads about what one had for lunch yesterday and such aren't related to anything on wc but maybe they were started by someone on wc. is it possible to not have posts originating from forums other than the wc forum being listed in the 'recent posts' area? i'm sure it is although it may not be easily implemented.

How about a simple check box of "Only show posts from WC Forums" in the options area? Simple enough resolve to this issue don't you think?

Kind of makes the 'most recent' pointless then. I noticed the 'gamer' threads bumping everything like WIP threads and other things more interesting to the skinners.

'Skinners are gamers and vice versa' yadda, yadda, isn't that why there are separate forums?

I have to agree with the original poster.

This seemed to start (this time, as it is not the first) or worsen after y'all did your maintenance a few days ago. Anyone want to clue us in on whether this is an intentional or unintentional outcome of the maintenance?

When I go to my forum of choice which happens to be WinCustomize I do two things before I go and read a thread, first is I look at the thread title and next is it's category.  I find that pretty much keeps me from reading what might be called nuisance threads.  Yes I occasionally get taken to a thread that wasn't something I was concerned about.

I'm not all that concerned about the cross posting issue, if fact I'm sure if a problem is being seen in or on one forum it will show up on all, so being informed isn't all that bad.

Just my take on the whole thing.

EDIT:  Just thought of one other thing I look at, the nick of the poster.  Most of the folks who hang out in the WinCustomize forums recognize nicks of WinCustomizers.
